Spring

DAY OF NATURE <imported>

The Day of Nature is the Druids' holiday, acknowledging the fact that ultimately, Nature provides everything that humanity requires for life. It is generally held on the day after the first significant thaw in the year, the actual date being decided on short notice by the head druid.

It is a quiet holiday, during which traditionally, families go for walks in the forests or fields, hold picnics and plant some (random) seeds somewhere in the wild, to symbolically give something back to Nature.

DAY OF ESCAPE AND DELIVERANCE

Annual day of arrival on the World of Two Moons.

People leave and lock their homes at first light, and then spend the day outside or in tents at bad weather, to commemorate the travels undertaken.

The day is generally spent in reflection on the loss and sacrifice of those who defended the refugees' escape, fasting and listening to a short prayer led by a priest. At dusk a council member delivers a short speech on remembrance of those lost during the year and providing hopefully some guidance and motivation for the coming year. The day then concludes in the largest feast of the year, lasting until people literally fall asleep where they sit.

So far, a large proportion of the inhabitants of River Village do come to Dragmos for this celebration, with the exception of a few guards, but this may change in the future.

Ironically, the last second wave of refugees, that was been found in the gate in Dur Sravasti, arrived the day before the "Day of Deliverance" celebrations in the eighth year. While those involved in the incident know this is mostly by chance (i.e. Gendo twilighting at the right time), the general population has taken this to be a sign of the favour of the gods returning.

SPRING FESTIVAL <imported>

The Spring Festival is celebrates on the dat the sowing for the main crops is concluded. It hence may vary slightly, depending on the temperatures and the rainfall patterns in a year, but tends to fall on the last few days of Spring or possibly the first few days of Summer.

It is usually celebrated as a moderate feast on the evening of the day the last fields are sown in.

Summer

Summer can be quite busy with celebrations and holidays, especially if the Spring Festival fals late in the year...

THE DAY OF THE GREAT COVENANT

This is the main celebration commemorating the agreement with the Spirit Of The Ocean and the founding of (Nassian) Dragmos. It is held at the first Spring Tide of the Summer. After a renewal of the oath to the spirit and a communal sacrifice of foodstuffs or small objects of value by each citizen which are loaded into a small ceremonial boat and cast off, the day is spent on the beach, celebrating with a large (fish) BBQ/feast.

Some of the River Village inhabitants do travel for this, although it may be that a similar or alternative celebration may be established there in the future. The date is slightly variable, due to minor fluctuations in the moon cycle.

THE DAY OF THE ARRIVAL OF THE GODS

This celebrates the arrival of the gods on the World of Two Moons and takes place about a month into the summer. It runs as a normal working day for most people although the children tend to build little wooden copies of the temple or statues of the gods during the day, and occasionally parents do assist. 2 hours past nightfall, a bell from the temple indicates the hour of arrival and people come into the streets to meet their neighbours and exchange small gifts with each other. The little models are displayed outside people's houses for the upcoming year and are a source of great pride for children and parents alike. After a short religious ceremony, small celebrations start up all over town, and people invite each other to visit, have some food ad drink. Citizens tend to visit numerous friends and a great deal of eating and drinking goes on until well after midnight.

DAYS OF GRATITUDE <imported>

The Days Of Gratitude are the main religious celebrations in Nathas and start on the day before the Summer Solstice. Over three days, the entire population commemorates their relationships with their gods. On the first day, the Day of Reflection, people consider the religious and moral state of the nation, led by some of the nations great thinkers through lectures and discussions. The second day, The Day of Gratitude, is mostly  spent in religious services and prayer of various types. The final day is, once again, taken up by a large feast. Kids generally are bored stiff during the first two days :)

Autumn

Autumn is one of the busiest seasons from the perspective of mundane work, bringing in the autumn harvest, preparing it for storage and then bringing out the winter crops so they are seeded out before the first frost arrives. As such there tends to be little time for significant celebrations...

HARVEST DAY <imported>

Harvest Day takes place on the day after the final field has been brought in, and hence may vary somewhat depending on harvest times and weather but generally takes place towards the middle of the Autumn.

Again, the day begins with a religious ceremony honouring all gods, as well as a civil ceremony thanking the farmers and herders for their work during the year.

The day concludes with a feast.

Winter

HOKOKU

Hokoku is not a very common holiday, and is mainly commemorated by those Nassians of Qin descent. It recounts the legendary final battle between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his closest warrior mages against the Liche King himself, which occurred "on the day of the first snow", according to legend. It is said Toyotomi managed to cross swords with the Liche Kin himself, although given the fact that the entire army was destroyed and there were no survivors, this is often disputed.

On the first night after the first snowfall, Qin families tend to congregate in small groups to recount traditional stories until deep into the night. The final story is the legend of Toyotomi's final battle.

DAY OF THE GUILDS <imported>

The Day of the Workers is the day to commemorate the efforts of all the craftsmen, labourers, scholars, etc.

It begins with a rousing speech by a civil official, and continues with a parade of the various guilds throughout town.

Concludes in a feast

THE DAY OF PEACE <imported>

The Day of Peace is celebrated on the day of the Winter Solstice and commemorates the end of the Magewars.

The Mages present in a community re-affirm their oath to serve the people and newly harrowed apprentices are sworn in. A Mage's first Oath day is a day of great celebration and it is after this day that they are first allowed to refer to themselves with the title of Magus. Traditionally, the final exam and Harrowing are set so they fall not too long before this day.

This is also traditionally the day that  any Wards and other protection magic for a community is repeated. The evening, again, ends in a large feast and any new mage is expected to provide a rousing speech and some magical entertainment…

On Nathas, (mundane) fireworks were commonly employed, but this is currently not really an option…

Nice work. Can anyone remember the day that the gods were called to the new world? That would be a major holiday, especially for the Avernii faithful, since Averni led the other gods and was the first to arrive.

It was actually around the early summer, according to the chronicle, which would put it right next to the big god party....
Wouldn't it be great if they returned ON their major holiday?
