Lesser Enchanted Items

Gendo's Carpet of Rapid Lateral Translational Movement

ReHe20

(Base 1, +1 concentration, +1 for speed, +1 rigidity allowing passengers, +2 for very unnatural motion -->> Lvl10, +5 levels for Item maintains concentration, +5 for 24 uses a day) Shape Bonus Carpet: +2 for flying (self)

This enchanted carpet is of moderate size (seats up to 4 people with a little equipment acceptably if not exactly comfortably. 3 Passengers with plenty of equipment are generally comfortable. The basic carped was fabricated by a couple of nassian weavers from the most robust fibre stock the local flora can provide.

The warp and weft are woven from robust fibres and decorated with finer, dyed linnen fibres for the pile, displaying the basic Nassian Phoenix and some smaller geometric patterns. The edges are doubly overcast to again ensure stability. The fringe fibres are short, except in the corners where a long set of fibres holds a glass disk showing Gendo's seal.

The carpet has a number of heavy loops around the edges in the overcast stitching to allow for passenger stability during more complex manoeuvres. In straight flight can reach speeds of up to 60 mph although at that speed it becomes somewhat uncomfortable to sit on. A comfortable travel speed of 40-50 mph is reasonable, assuming a good scarf and not overly loose clothing.

The carpet is activated and de-activates using basic draconic commands (fly, land). Steering is affected by a combination of physical manipulation of the front corners and a number of verbal commands (speed up, steady, slow down, rise, drop, dive, half turn, full turn, etc.). Reverse motion is possible but difficult to achieve, given that the control is affected from the front. At low speeds very sharp turns are possible and are generally preferable. The carpet is also able to rotate on the spot if no forward motion is employed.

Once started, the carpet only obeys the person activating it, but a "transfer command" order is implemented. Gendo has quickly become protective of the carpet and often takes it to the weavers for (so far unnecessary) repairs and combing.

Gendo's Relief of the Tillman's Burden

ReTe15

R: touch, D: Mom, T: Part

This enchanted device looks like no more than a simple labourers spade. When thrust strongly into the ground, the earth in an area 2 paces by 100 paces in front of the wielder is churned over as if freshly ploughed. It has unlimited uses so that a potentially vast area could be very rapidly plowed.

When the speeds have been planted in the freshly tilled soil, the spade can be used to till the land over again.

To say that this tool has been warmly accepted by the farmers around Dragmos is to vastly understate the case. Lacking good metal plows, they had previously been tilling the earth with fire hardened wooden plows, pulled by fellow farmers. With the use of this spade, agriculture suddenly becomes magnitudes more productive.

Due to a very positive reception and clamour from the river village for a spade of their own, Gendo tasked his apprentice Sorel with recreating his work from his lab notes. Sorel, working for the first time unsupervised in the lab, produced a spade of superb quality which has rapidly been pressed into service in the fields to the delight of the local farmers.  Gendo was as pleased with her fine enchanting as only a doting parent can be and Sorel has drawn great strength and comfort from the successful enchanting of the spade.

The spade is a lesser enchanted device. It carries Gendos Seal on the base of the blade. The shape of the created area originates from his Casting Sigil of incorporating geometric shapes in the spell effect or visualisation.

(Base 2, Touch +1, Part +1, Size +1, Unlimited use +10)

The Stonemasons Early Dinner

ReTe20

R: touch, D: Mom, T: Part

After Ignacio delivered a surprise of several hundred metre square stone block, the council decided to rebuild the Bastille that defended the Eastern side of the city as well as start work building the long planned temple to the five gods. This mammoth undertaking looked to be a daunting task, especially given the limited number of masons and labourers. Gendo however decided to repeat his fantastic success with the enchanted spades that he had provided to the settlements farmers by making an enchanted chisel to dramatically speed up the masons work in cutting up the large stone blocks that Ignacio had conjured. Thus was born the Stonemason's Early Dinner, a sturdy iron chisel enchanted to cut stone like butter.

Although initially reluctant to "taint" their art with the use of magic, the stonemasons have found it tremendously helpful for sectioning the large stone blocks into more workable sizes and this has allowed them to rapidly start construction on both the bastille and temple.

The Chisel is a lesser enchanted device. It carries Gendo's Seal on the body (underneath the strike plate) and sparks creates during its use cycle through circular, triangular and square spray patterns.

(Base 2, +1 touch, +1 part, +1 size, +1 to affect Stone, +10 levels for unlimited uses)

Eleanor's Communal Cold Kiln
ReTe19

R: Touch     D: Moment     T: Circle

The Kiln is a huge circular shaped Kiln that uses no heat. Mined or sourced Ore of any variety is poured into the top of the device and separated as it passes through. Pure metal ores are deposited in various sections of the Kiln and the stone it has been separated from is dumped below, where a handy small cart is often waiting to take it away.

Base 3: Move dirt in very unnatural fashion

+2 magnitudes to affect metal

Range Touch: +1 mag

Uses 50 per day: +9

The Formidable Gambeson

MuAn14

R: Per, D: Sun, T: Ind

This well tailored woolen gambeson is a fairly standard design, made to be worn under armour or as an outer garment. Ser Ira has enchanted hers to resist piercing, making it a double layer of protection against attack. This simple enchantment gives her +3 soak.

(Base 4, +2 Sun, +1 level for 2 uses a day, +3 Environmental trigger sunup/down)

Invested Devices

The Knowledgeable Chalice of the Watery Torrent

CrAq19 (Re)

R:touch, D: mom

The Chalice is Gendo's Offering to the Ocean Spirit as part of his continued initiation into the cult.

Twice daily, at defined times, the chalice will send forth a mighty geyser of water.

The timing is given  by the high and low tide time of the location where the chalice has last been immersed into ocean water. While the torrent is intense and fast, it is difficult to predict without exact knowledge and is pretty much useless as a weapon. The high tide point creates a circular stream of water, while the low tide point creates a triangular stream. (Geometric shapes as part of Gendo's Casting Sigil; Re prerequisite, cosmetic only)

The blue colouring originates from a dark aquamarine dissolved in the glass used to make the main body and a small polished aquamarine is attached to the bronze mid body ring. both rings depict subtle wave patterns, in accordance with the wave shape of the Ocean Spirit Cult.

The Chalice is an invested device, in accordance with the request of the Spirit (it is low enough to be made as a lesser device if needed).

Base 10, +1 touch -> EL 15, +1 twice/day, +3 env trigger -> CL 19

The item carries Gendo's Seal under its base.

Rudder of the Endless Ocean

This item was created by Ignacio at the request and with the help of Eleanor. A sturdy ships rudder, it only has a single effect in it at the moment, but this effect is a powerful one, allowing the ship it is attached to the sail through earth and even stone as if it were water. It works by actually changing the dirt or stone to a liquid state while it is in contact with the ships hull, allowing the ship to stay buoyant. The Watery Earth effect occupies 3 slots in the rudder leaving another 5 for enchantment.

Future enchantments could include an air bubble of some sort for diving, a protective charm or form of attack.

Watery Earth

MuTe30

R: Touch, D: Mom, T: Part

The rudder turns a large amount of dirt and stone around the ships hull into a liquid state. This doesn't last long once the ship passes but is constantly renewed with any dirt within about a foot of the hull. This allows the ship to remain buoyant and sail across the and. Care must be taken with forests as the effect has no effect on trees, roots or such like.

(Base 3, +1 to affect stone, +1 touch, +1 part, +2 size, +10 levels for unlimited uses)

Ocean of Endless Sky

ReHe30?

R:Touch, D: Con T: Ind

The rudder allows the ship it is attached to the ability of flight. Along with the standard port and starboard orientation, two additional (mostly decorative) fins grant two additional directions: above and below. The item has unlimited uses, to allow for constant and minute changes in tack, as well as maintains concentration so that it doesn't simply drop out of the sky when no one is at the helm. This ReHe effect could also be used to dive below sea level, though without sufficient protections this would

 not be recommended.

(Base 3, +1 touch, +1 con, +2 size, +10 levels for unlimited uses, +5 levels for item maintains concentration) Shape bonus to transport?

   Faekin's Wrath

MuHe (Au) 40

R:Touch, D: Mom, T: Ind

This mystical short bow transmutes an arrow into a bolt of lightning. The command phrase is spoken in Draconic as the arrow is being released. The bolt flies true and straight

dealing +30 damage with 20 penetration.

(Base 4, +4 Wholly divorced from natural contexts, +1 touch,  +10 levels for penetration of 20, +5, 24 Uses per day)

The Pilgrim's Staff

ReCo: 50

R:Touch D:Mom T:Circle

The Pilgrims staff is a large staff crafter by the Dwarves to Erebu's Specifications. It is collapsible (mundanely) and not meant for combat in any way shape or form. Stylised with a black dragon atop whose amber heart can be seen and claw tips edged with diamond the staff can be used to draw a circle on almost any surface before using that circle to teleport any corpus creatures within to a prepared arcane connection. These arcane connections take the form of polished stones that can be fitted into one of the several circular sockets within the dragons wings. The staff still has many points left open for enchantment and Gorlim hopes that Ignacio will be willing to enchant the staff with a similar effect allowing his Dwarven refugees to transport their wealth with them.
The staff was a gift from Erebus to Gorlim. Gorlim, in grateful thanks returned the favor in Vis.

(Base: 35, +1 Touch, 24 uses per day +5, Pen 10, +5)

The Broom that Makes a Tidy Lab

ReTe20

Ignacio was fed up of the dirt, dust and grime that regularly infected his lab. Maybe because his lab was underground, or maybe because his living quarters were in the lab, the grime particularly bothered him. He created this broom therefore to make cleaning his lab simple. His servant simply takes the broom, makes a couple of dramatic sweeping gestures, and all the dust and dirt lifts off the floor a few inches and drifts out the door as if carried on the backs of mice. On a practical level this gives Ignacio's lab +1 health.

(Base 3, +1 touch, +2 room, +2 magnitudes to affect stone, metal and glass)

Forgot that it needed to be part target so dropped the size by a factor of 10.

Also decided to make the area of effect long and thin rather than more square. Using it a wielder would walk along on edge of the field, activating it and ploughing a pair of furrows with each use. Bit more thematic.

Not sure if my Kiln works, can someone check it?
ReTe should be able to separate all metal's put into it, into separate piles right?
Also, the stonemason's early dinner should be base 7, +5 for stone, it's not dirt.

Oli, did you lower the level of the kiln? Because if so, I'd add more uses til it hit my lab total/2

Oliver said

Hi Mike
Yeah, I dropped the base level for the Kiln and it should work as it is now.
And yes, the Stonemasons Early dinner needs +1 to affect stone as the base guideline should be Base 2 (Control or move dirt in a slightly unnatural fashion) with +1 magnitude for affecting stone. I've changed it above.

One thought about the Kiln: If you include an Ig requisite, it could be used to separate alloys into constituents, and it cold actually remove the metal from the ores, pretty much with the same base. Keep in mind that the concept of chemical change wasn't established in the middle age and it pretty much was ore+heat creates metal+slag. Uses per day isn't that important if you can stick enough in in a single load...

PillFish said

The goal was to seperate them anyway... just using ReTe to seperate the contituent parts

Shiroboshi said

At the moment it only pulls out the ore, not just the metal, according to your description. Ore still needs smelting and possibly alloying before you can do much with it.

Sorry I'm not exactly clued in on foundry processes, having never needed to know. It's just supposed to separate it into piles of pure mineral. I.e Iron, Lead, Copper.

Shiroboshi said

at 1:47 pm on Aug 12, 2013

Iron, Lead, Copper, etc are metals, not minerals. Ore is a type of 'stone' in the widest sense, since it is a chemical composition of a metal and non-metals. Usually, Ore is an oxide, but can sometimes be sulfates, carbonates or similar. It is also fundamentally different looking to the metal itself. Smelting and refining reduces the mineral to metal and slag, usually by attaching the non-metallic parts of the ore to the coal used in the smelting process. However, that wasn't exactly understood in mediveal times and the assumption was, AFAIK, that ore needed to be heated to make metal...
So, to be short, separating metal out from rock is very different from separating ore out from rock. OTOH, you have the extra magnitude in there to affect metal, but that should only affect existing metal..... I'm not sure, in short. For arguments sake, have a Mu component in there? Ig could go in cosmetically? This is one for Ollie, or event something to toss to the forums....?

Dunno how requesites work, muto has duration.

The kiln won't need ignem. Knowledge of smelting is that the metal is in the ore and needs heat to bring it out. This uses magic instead. It works fine as is. Since it affects metals already, it can not only pull the metals out of ores, but also the metals out of alloys. Very handy. You might even be able to use it to work out how the elves make their rust free blue steel.
